What is the difference between solid (powder) and liquid PAC?

Solid PAC (28%-30% Al₂O₃) is highly concentrated, easy to transport over long distances, and has a shelf life of up to two years. It requires dissolution before application. Liquid PAC (10%-15% Al₂O₃) is ready for direct dosing, eliminating dust handling hazards, but involves higher shipping costs per unit of active Al₂O₃.

How does PAC compare to traditional alum (aluminum sulfate)?

PAC is highly pre-hydrolyzed, meaning it works rapidly and forms larger, denser flocs compared to alum. PAC operates efficiently across a wider pH range (5.0 - 9.0), leaves less residual aluminum in the treated water, and generates less chemical sludge, which minimizes filter backwashing cycles.

What storage conditions are required for PAC solutions?

Liquid PAC is corrosive and should be stored in FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic), HDPE, or rubber-lined steel tanks. Solid PAC should be kept in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Under these dry conditions, solid PAC powder will remain stable and active for 24 months.

Are there specific limitations for drinking water applications?

Yes. PAC used for municipal drinking water purification must be synthesized from pure raw materials (bauxite and high-purity hydrochloric acid) and must maintain very low levels of heavy metals such as Lead, Arsenic, and Cadmium.
