Wastewater particles are naturally negatively charged, which keeps them suspended through electrostatic repulsion. This allows the particles to come together and form small micro-flocs.
Once neutralized, long-chain organic polymers (such as Polyacrylamide - PAM) are introduced to facilitate flocculation. The polymer chains attach to multiple micro-flocs through adsorption, bridging them into larger, heavier aggregates that settle rapidly.
